Stop Trump

On the day of Trump’s inauguration, an incredible mobilisation against his hatred and bigotry took place around the world, from the three million-strong global Women’s March to the Bridges Not Walls banner drops from 250 bridges across five continents.

Following mass protests in the US against Trump’s ban on people from seven Muslim majority countries from entering the US, thousands mobilised in the UK against the ban and calling on Theresa May to cancel Trump’s state visit to the UK.

Thank you to the many Momentum groups and activists who organised, supported and attended demonstrations across the country, in an inspiring display of solidarity, hope, and unity.

We need to continue this momentum, building a movement to oppose Trump’s fascist policies, May’s complicity in those policies and to stop the Tories and UKIP winning with the same toxic politics here in the UK.

Despite the mass demonstrations and and the nearly 2 million petition signatories, Theresa May has said she is “very happy” to be extending an invitation to Trump to visit the UK on a state visit. We need to keep up the pressure on the government, calling on them to stop appeasing Trump’s fascist policies and to stand up for our values of humanity and compassion.

What can you do to help Stop Trump?

1. Join the march to Stop Trump this Saturday

If you’re in London, join the march to Stop Trump’s Muslim Ban this Saturday, 4th February, from the US Embassy to Downing Street. The Momentum and Labour Assembly Against Austerity bloc will meet at 11am at 24 Grosvenor Square, London W1A 2LQ. Check out the Facebook Event for more information.

2. Join the Stop Trump campaign

Check out the campaign website for the Stop Trump campaign and like the Facebook page for updates.

3. Call on Parliament to vote against Trump’s state visit

On 20th February Parliament will debate whether or not to allow Trump’s state visit. There will be a nationwide day of action calling on Parliament to vote against Trump’s state visit. Here is the Facebook Event for the London demonstration in Parliament Square. Why not organise a demonstration in your local area with your local Momentum group and other campaign groups? You can link up with 1 Day Without Us who are organising a national day of action on 20th February to celebrate the contribution of migrants to the UK.

If Trump’s state visit goes ahead, we’ll be organising nationwide resistance for his arrival. Let’s make it the biggest mobilisation in Britain’s history.

4. Keep updated with the campaign and propose ideas to your local Momentum group

We will be providing updates and ideas on how you and your local Momentum group can campaign locally, for example holding organising events, direct actions and taking part in the Women’s March 10 actions over the next 100 days. You can also bring a motion to your Constituency Labour Party about getting involved in the campaign against Trump. Here is a model motion you can propose, and here is a diagram explaining how to propose a motion to your CLP.
